What (if anything) do I need to purchase to make a drum machine functional??
My little bro wants to try his hand with electronic music. I've decided to buy him a drum machine for his birthday, but I know NOTHING about electronica. I've been leaning towards something from the BOSS Dr. Rythym series (good?/bad?).
For some reason, all product descriptions on-line are aimed towards people with DJ experience. My questions are very basic: Do drum machines support self playback, or do I need to buy speakers? Does the machine require additional equipment, or can it be used as stand alone? I'm sure eventually he'll get more equipment, but for now he really just wants the drum machine.
Also, does anyone know of any books that might give him a little direction/aid. Thanks in advance.
Some drumboxes have a headphone output as well as a stereo audio out that can be used to hook to a home stereo but I suggest a small self powered amplifier /speaker because the sound can ruin a home speaker system fast.(I did this!) Roland machines come with great instructions. My friend used a BOSS machine to make a professional album.
